Fishing on Achill Island
The Atlantic waters on the coast of Achill Island provide ideal fishing grounds for the fishing enthusiast. Whether shore angling or deep sea angling Achill waters are the home to no fewer than 34 different species and you are sure to catch one of them.
You can go Deep Sea angling from Purteen Harbour. Of Course it is a weather dependant sport. Purteen is our local harbour here in Keel, where the fresh daily catch is landed before making the way to the Kitchen at Achill Cliff House. On your day of departure you can always meet with the local fishermen and haggle a good price and bring home some fresh Achill fish.
There are several ideal locations around Achill Island Sea shore and beach angling. Ask at reception for maps showing the best shore fishing marks locally.
A license for fresh water fishing on Achill can be purchased from the the Achill Tourism office to allow you to fish for trout on Keel Lake.
Life Jackets Must be worn at all times for your own safety on the seas and shores of the unpredictable Atlantic Ocean and lake on Achill Island.
